Metric Segments

Introduction

Presight introduces a powerful and unique feature: the ability to use metrics as segments. This capability allows you to break down one metric by another, enabling deeper insights and more nuanced analysis. By treating metrics as segments, you can categorize and group your data in innovative ways that align closely with your business objectives.

Use-cases

  • Customer Behavior Analysis:

    • Segment customers based on purchasing habits to identify loyalty levels and tailor retention strategies.

  • Sales Performance Monitoring:

    • Break down total sales by average transaction value to understand revenue drivers.

  • Product Analytics:

    • Analyze product performance by combining sales metrics with customer engagement data.

  • Operational Efficiency:

    • Assess operational metrics, such as delivery times by shipment volumes, to optimize logistics.

How to Use Segment by Metrics

Using metrics as dimensions in Presight is straightforward:

  1. Access the Breakdown Menu:

    • Navigate to the metric you wish to analyze.

    • Search for the metric name or click on Metrics section to navigate to metric list.

  2. Configure Your Metric Breakdown:

    • After selecting the metric, a configuration menu will appear.

    • Here, you can set the Time Granularity and define Buckets for grouping your data. |

1. Metric Granularity

Metric Granularity allows you to specify the time frame or level of detail for your analysis. This flexibility lets you examine how metrics interact over different periods or contexts.

Example Scenario

Suppose you want to break down the Number of Customers by their Sales. Presight lets you choose the granularity of the Sales metric:

  • All Time Sales

  • Yearly Sales

  • Quarterly Sales

  • Monthly Sales

  • Weekly Sales

  • Daily Sales

This configuration tells Presight how to summarize the customer's sales into what date range. For example, Jane might spend $500 a week but spends Above $2K a month and has contributed over $22K in Sales ever.

By selecting the appropriate granularity, you can tailor your analysis to match your business needs and uncover time-based trends.

Important Note Be careful with the existing granularity of the widget. If you have a table in month, and you choose to breakdown a metric by Customer's Weekly Sales, the numbers for each value each month might be greater than you might otherwise expect. Each customer will be assigned into a value each week (ie. Jane maybe in the group 1 to 2K this week and Above 2K the next), and thus might show up more than one in a monthly view.

2. Buckets

After setting the metric and granularity, Presight enables you to group results into Buckets. Bucketing transforms continuous metric values into categorized groups, making it easier to interpret and visualize your data.

How Buckets Work

  • Define Bucket Ranges: Set specific ranges for your metric values.

    • Even Ranges: buckets are divided equally based on a given range and bin size.

    • Custom Buckets: Manually create buckets that align with your business definitions.

  • Show Range Min Max: You can click on the eye icon to preview the min max of your ranges to gauge a better bucket setting.

Continuing the Example

With Sales as the metric and Monthly granularity, you can create buckets such as:

  • Low Sales: $0–$1,000

  • Medium Sales: $1,001–$5,000

  • High Sales: $5,001 and above

Each customer will be categorized into a bucket based on their sales figure for each month.

Using and Interating Metric Segments

Using Segments in other Metrics

  • Once you've hit Apppy, Presight will automatically create a Draft Segment for you and apply it to the metric.

  • This segment is reusable in your doc, so you can breakdown other metrics by this segment to see other insights. Simply search for its name and choose it in other widgets.

Iterate or Edit Segment

You can also edit segment definition by create a new one or hit Edit on the current segment in your breakdown menu or in-doc Data Browser.
